Resources and Supports Regarding Proposed Program Changes to Child Care Licensing

The System for Early Education Development (SEED) is here to support you and act as a resource to help with your professional growth and development.  We are providing the following information to give you a better understanding of the Child Care Development Fund (CCDF) and proposed program changes to State of Alaska Child Care Licensing as some of these changes involve SEED.

What is the SEED Registry?

The SEED Registry tracks professional development milestones of Early Childhood and/or School-Age Education professionals on an individual basis. Once registered, individuals are assigned a SEED level on the Career Ladder. We encourage early educators, teachers, administrators, and others working in the field of early childhood to join today through an easy on-line portal.

Updated SEED Career Ladder

The SEED Career Ladder is a system for all early care and learning professionals recognizing training and credit based education. This Ladder articulates advancement in the early care and learning profession.

New Training and Trainer Approval System

The Alaska SEED Training and Trainer Approval process is a part of the SEED Professional Development System. Training and Trainer Approval ensures trainings are delivered by approved trainers, meet consistent standards and contain content that reflects current research. SEED approved trainings will align with the Alaska Early Care and Learning Core Knowledge and Competencies and Alaska’s Early Learning Guidelines.

New CCDF Health and Safety Requirements

The reauthorization of the Child Care Development Block Grant (CCDBG) in 2014 included provisions related to health and safety requirements for all administrators and caregivers with direct access to children. All administrators and caregivers will be required to obtain health and safety training. More details are available on thread's website.

Recognition and Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect

Training on recognition and reporting of child abuse and neglect is available through thread or online through the State of Alaska Office of Children’s Services.
